How do I install Qwipy?
Add Qwipy from the Chrome Web Store — one click, no account and no API key to set up. It works out of the box on Qwipy's own hosted AI backend.
How do I enhance a prompt on ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI chat site?
Qwipy adds an Enhance button to 5 AI chat sites, styled a little differently depending on where you are:
- ChatGPT and Gemini — Enhance sits inline, inside the composer.
- Claude, DeepSeek, and Copilot — Enhance floats beside the composer, with a chevron for one more option.
Click it and Qwipy rewrites your whole draft into a clearer, more specific prompt. On the page itself it's an icon with no label — hover it and you'll see the tooltip "Polish prompt," same feature, just what the button itself is called.
On the three floating-style sites, that chevron offers Fix grammar instead — corrects spelling and tone rather than restructuring the prompt. (ChatGPT and Gemini don't have this chevron.)
Prefer the keyboard? Cmd+M (Mac) / Ctrl+M (Windows) triggers Enhance instantly whenever your cursor is in the composer.
How do I fix, ask about, or summarize text anywhere else?
On any other site, select at least a few words of text to bring up a small floating dot. Click it for a quick menu:
- Fix — corrects grammar and tone. Only shows up while you're editing text, since it needs somewhere to write the correction back into.
- Ask AI — answers a question about what you selected, with live currency or stock lookups for those kinds of questions.
- Summarise — gives you the short version in an on-page card.
This needs a one-time permission, which Qwipy asks for the first time you open its side panel. Until you grant it, nothing selection-based works outside the 5 AI-chat sites — see Troubleshooting below if that's not happening.
Prefer the keyboard? Option+Shift+G (Mac) / Alt+Shift+G (Windows) fixes on the spot — the full shortcut table is further down this page.
How do I get a reply drafted on Gmail or WhatsApp?
On Gmail or WhatsApp Web, Qwipy can draft a reply for you, two ways:
- Open a Gmail thread with nothing selected — Qwipy drafts a reply to the last message automatically.
- Select a specific message's text on Gmail or WhatsApp — Qwipy replies to just that.
Tone is set ahead of time in Settings (Default, Formal, Friendly, or Casual, separately for Gmail and WhatsApp) rather than chosen each time. The draft lands in your compose box — Qwipy never sends anything for you, so you always get the final look before you hit send.
Where do my saved summaries go, and what else is in the side panel?
Save a summary card, or a turn from Ask AI, and it's stored as a Note in the side panel:
- Kept locally on your device, never synced anywhere.
- Exportable all at once as a single Markdown file.
- Viewable and deletable, individually or all at once — but not editable after saving.
The side panel itself has four tabs:
- Usage — a private, read-only dashboard of your own habits: time saved, what you use most, a day-streak calendar. Nothing here is sent anywhere, it's just local stats about you.
- Ask AI — the chat-style Q&A interface. A thread caps at 5 messages to keep answers fast; start a new one (or save the old one to Notes first) to keep going.
- Notes — search, filter, export everything as Markdown, or clear it all.
- Settings — every toggle and preference mentioned on this page lives here.
What keyboard shortcuts does Qwipy have?
Qwipy ships 6 shortcuts — 5 you can see and customize in Chrome, plus one built directly into the AI-chat composer. Mac uses Option where Windows uses Alt: same physical key, different name, identical shortcut.
Corrects grammar, spelling, and tone while keeping your meaning and voice. Fixes your selection, or the whole field if your cursor's in one but nothing's selected.
Requires an actual text selection. Opens Ask AI in the side panel — and answers currency or stock questions with a live lookup instead of the AI when it recognizes one.
Requires an actual text selection. Opens an on-page summary card.
On Gmail with nothing selected, drafts a reply to the last message automatically. Tone is set ahead of time in Settings, not chosen per-use — and it only ever fills the compose box, never sends.
No default key on Mac or Windows — assign one yourself at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Rewrites a selection (or the whole field) into a clearer AI prompt instead of just fixing grammar. Chrome only lets an extension auto-bind 4 shortcuts, so this one ships unbound — assign a key yourself if you want it. In Settings → Selection actions → Fix as prompt, you can also switch this from Auto to Manual and write your own custom rewrite instruction, replacing Qwipy's default one.
Only works with your cursor inside the composer on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, or Copilot — same action as clicking Enhance. Not a Chrome shortcut, so it won't appear at chrome://extensions/shortcuts or in Qwipy's own Settings, and it does nothing (silently) if Enhance is off for that site.
Heads up: the 5 customizable shortcuts above currently still work even on a site you've individually blocked in Settings — only the on-page dot and menu respect that block list.
Troubleshooting
Enhance button not appearing on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, or Copilot
Check three things first: the master Qwipy toggle, the Enhance feature toggle, and whether you've blocked that site — any one of these being off hides the button with no error shown.
If those all look right, it's usually the AI provider changing their page layout, which can break Qwipy's detection of the composer box. Try reloading the page first; if the site's layout genuinely changed, only an extension update fixes it.
A keyboard shortcut isn't responding
Chrome may not have been able to assign the suggested key if another extension already uses it — check chrome://extensions/shortcuts (or Settings → Shortcuts in Qwipy, which shows the same live info) and bind it manually if it's blank.
Ask AI, Summarize, and Reply all require an actual text selection — a focused field with nothing selected won't trigger them. And every shortcut except Enhance needs the one-time all-sites permission granted first (see below).
Qwipy isn't doing anything on a particular page
This is almost always the one-time "run on all sites" permission. It's requested automatically the first time you open Qwipy's side panel — if you declined it then, the selection menu, dot, shortcuts, and Reply silently never activate anywhere until you reopen the side panel and grant it.
Also worth checking: the site might be on your "Blocked sites" list in Settings, and Qwipy can never run on Chrome's own internal pages or the Chrome Web Store — that's a Chrome limitation, not something an update can fix.
A reply draft seems to have failed silently
If Reply's request fails outright (a backend hiccup, or the feature toggled off), that failure currently only shows up as a quiet alert inside the side panel, not as an on-page notice — open the panel to check if it wasn't already visible.
Fix, Ask AI, or Summarise stopped working after an update or restart
A page reload usually fixes this — Qwipy's on-page scripts need to reinject after Chrome restarts or the extension updates, and a page that was already open won't pick that up on its own.
How do I reset Qwipy or clear my data?
Settings → Privacy has two buttons, both needing a second click to confirm: Reset to defaults restores your settings but keeps notes and your dictionary; Clear all local data wipes settings, notes, and dictionary entirely. You don't need to touch chrome://extensions for either.
I'm getting a "Daily usage limit reached" error
Each install shares a daily cap of 40 AI requests (with a smaller 5-a-day sub-allowance specifically for requests routed to OpenAI). It resets 24 hours after you hit it — a safeguard against abuse of Qwipy's free backend, not something you can pay to raise.
My older notes keep disappearing
Notes have a cap you set in Settings → Summarised notes (100, 500, or All). Past the cap, the oldest note is silently deleted to make room for each new one — there's no warning. Set Keep to "All," or export regularly, if you want to keep everything.
I added a word to my Dictionary but Qwipy doesn't seem to respect it everywhere
Dictionary only affects grammar & tone fixing — the Fix action, its keyboard shortcut, and Enhance's "Fix grammar instead." It has no effect on prompt-rewriting, Ask AI, or Summarise, since those aren't word-by-word corrections, so a "don't flag this word" list doesn't apply to them.
The on-page Fix option only ever corrects grammar, it never rewrites my selection as a prompt
That's expected outside the 5 AI-chat sites — Fix's behavior is decided entirely by which site you're on: a prompt rewrite on the 5 AI-chat sites, grammar correction everywhere else, with no per-click way to switch it. (The "Fix as a prompt" keyboard shortcut can be aimed anywhere manually if you want that specifically — see the shortcuts table above.)
The side panel looks empty when I first open it
The Usage tab, which you see by default, only fills in once you've actually used Qwipy at least once — expect placeholder text like "No activity tracked yet" until then. That's expected, not broken.
A few more common questions
Does it cost anything, ever?
No paid tier, subscription, or payment flow exists anywhere in Qwipy. It's free to use out of the box on Qwipy's own hosted backend — the only limit is the shared daily request cap described above, which is an anti-abuse safeguard, not a paywall.
Do I need an account to use it?
No signup, login, or account system exists anywhere in Qwipy. It works immediately after installing.
Does Qwipy work in Firefox or Safari?
No — it's built on Chrome-specific APIs with no cross-browser layer, so it's Chrome-only today. It likely works in other Chromium browsers (Edge, Brave, and similar), though that hasn't been explicitly tested.
Does it work in Incognito windows?
Not by default — that's standard Chrome behavior for any extension, nothing Qwipy-specific. Turn it on at chrome://extensions, open Qwipy's details, and enable "Allow in Incognito."
Can other people see what I select?
No one at Qwipy sees it, and it isn't logged or stored server-side. Your selected text goes only to whichever AI provider is generating that specific response, purely to produce the result — and Qwipy's own backend doesn't retain it afterward. No analytics or tracking exists in the product.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
Settings, notes, dictionary, and the anonymous install ID all live only in Chrome's local storage on your device — uninstalling deletes all of it along with the extension. Nothing was ever stored anywhere else to begin with.
Can I bring my own AI backend or API key?
Not today — there's currently no way to configure a custom AI backend or API key in Qwipy. It works entirely on its own built-in backend.
